Characteristics and Applications
MSM-ER80S-G is a gas-shielded, microalloyed, copper-free solid welding wire designed for high-strength steel with a tensile strength of ≥550 MPa. Employing DC reverse polarity, it delivers deep penetration, excellent all-position welding operability, low fume emission, stable and smooth electric arc, as well as superior non-destructive testing performance.
Trace alloying elements including Mo, B and Ti are added to the wire, and microalloying is achieved through controlled rolling and cooling processes. While improving weld strength, it significantly enhances low-temperature impact toughness, with the low-temperature impact value reaching approximately 180 J at -20℃, 120 J at -40℃ and 90 J at -60℃. This product is widely used in shipbuilding, bridge construction, marine engineering, pressure vessels, petroleum pipelines, steel structures and other fields.
The microalloyed material requires no copper plating process during machining and does not involve any toxic chemicals, making it a fully environmentally friendly machining solution.
Notes
1.Welding shall be performed with DC reverse polarity (DC+).
2.Its deep penetration allows for reduced weld leg size and less deposited metal fill, thereby lowering costs.
3.Use CO₂ gas with a purity of ≥99.5%, or a mixed gas of 80%Ar + 20%CO; for TIG welding, adopt 99%Ar. The gas flow rate shall be 15–25 L/min.
4.For multi-pass welding, the interpass temperature should be controlled within the range of 100–150℃.
5.When conducting non-consumable electrode filler wire welding processes such as TIG, plasma arc or laser welding, the shielding gas shall be 99.99%Ar.
